CASE STUDY 2
ISSUE: Pectoral, Gluteal & Hamstring Tears
A 3-year-old Hallowed Crown Filly
ON ARRIVAL / AFTER 5 WEEKS SPELLING
This is an example of the results from using the water treadmill for conditioning of a racehorse during her 5-week spelling period with us.
The filly turned up with a very light condition and was treated immediately by Kelly Fawcett from Still Point Equine Therapies. This treatment uncovered enormous amounts of muscle tears throughout her shoulders, her gluten and hamstrings – it was no wonder she didn’t come on after a jump out.
This lovely horse received 2 more treatments, 2 weeks apart, with a program of stretches and massage to help in-between treatments. After 3 weeks rest, she then started lightly on the water treadmill twice a week in week 1, which then increased to 3 times a week in week 2. Week 3 saw her on the treadmill on a daily basis and ready to start a fitness program with a healed-up chest and hind muscles.
There was noticeable improvement in her top line, core muscles as well as obvious re-development showing in her hind quarters.
